Welcome to my webpage. Thanks for taking the time to look.
Hello. I’m 110,000 words into the first draft of my first novel. It’s going well, it’s exciting, it’s what I’ve always wanted to do … but I need your help!
About six months ago, I decided to dedicate myself to finishing my first novel instead of focussing on paid work and trying to squeeze in bouts of writing when I had the time.
Almost immediately, I ran out of money – no surprises there! – so I started a website called Sponsor My Novel.
My goal is to raise NZ$8000 by asking friends, family, colleagues and book lovers to sponsor a page, a paragraph or sentence – as much or as little as they can afford.
This is not a get-rich-quick scheme but a writer asking for a helping hand.
Click HERE to read an extract. There’s no title yet so if you think of one, please let me know!
If you like what you read – or you want to find out what happens next – then please sponsor me to keep writing.
In return, I will be eternally grateful – and you will get a big fat acknowledgement in the published book.
Cheers and many thanks!

Total raised so far: $5925.50. Wonderful !! Almost there. Thanks everyone. I’ve written more than 50,000 words since the appeal started.
Thanks to Sentimental Plastic Man Rob Appierdo for fancy Web design and Jess Feast for great photos and ideas.
I think this is a brilliant idea – the arts funding of the future – starting now!
Hi,
In just was listening to you on the radio NZ. I think your on to somthing here, great idea.
On another note, the person that was interviewing you, sounded like she had a real problem with you — The interviewer sounded like a person with a problem with writers not “suffering” for their craft, like a person has to “suffer” to somehow create something entertaining?
Good luck with your book,
Joe
Hi and good luck with your venture. Just heard your interview, Maggie seemed a little tough.
I wondered why that may be but that isn’t relevant. Hoping however you work things out that you’re successful in your hopes and endeavours. Kevin Rooke
